What does "aided" mean — and why does it matter?
In Tamil Nadu, undergraduate programmes at private colleges are typically offered in two categories: Aided and Self-Finance. The difference lies in funding:
Aided programmes — receive financial support (especially for faculty salaries and infrastructure) from the Tamil Nadu government. Fees are set by government norms and are significantly lower.
Self-Finance programmes — fully funded by the college from student fees. Fees are higher (₹25,000–34,000/year at JKKN) and the college has more flexibility on syllabus, intake, and specialisations.
Crucially, both categories award the same Periyar University degree. Employers, government recruiters, professional bodies (ICAI for CA, ICMAI for CMA, ICSI for CS, IBPS, Reserve Bank of India (RBI)) do not distinguish between aided and self-finance graduates when hiring. What matters is your degree score, skills, and interview performance — not the funding category.
This makes Bachelor of Commerce (Aided) a phenomenal value pick — same degree, same opportunities, dramatically lower cost.
Why study Bachelor of Commerce (Aided) in 2026?
Lowest possible cost for a quality commerce degree — aided fees are a fraction of self-finance fees, ideal for families balancing higher-education costs across multiple children.
Same syllabus, same career outcomes — every recruiter accepts Bachelor of Commerce (Aided) on equal terms.
Strong CA / CMA / CS pathway — Bachelor of Commerce is the most-preferred undergraduate degree for chartered accountancy. Pursuing CA + Bachelor of Commerce (Aided) keeps total education cost low.
Government job aligned — IBPS, State Bank of India (SBI), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), TNPSC, banking and insurance company exams all accept Bachelor of Commerce
Scholarships add up — BC, MBC, SC, ST, first-generation graduate scholarships further reduce net cost. Some students complete the degree with minimal out-of-pocket fees.
