Department of History

The Department of History has been an integral part of our institution since its establishment in 1975. With a strong commitment to preserving and understanding the past, the department has been at the forefront of historical education and research. Over the years, it has expanded its academic offerings to provide students with comprehensive programs in the field of history.

In 1984, the department took a significant leap forward by introducing the M.A. program in History. This postgraduate program aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of historical events, civilizations, and cultural developments. Through a rigorous curriculum and engaging teaching methodologies, students were equipped with the necessary tools to critically analyze and interpret the past.

Recognizing the importance of fostering advanced research skills and nurturing scholarly pursuits, the department introduced the M.Phil. program in History in 1988. This research-oriented program aimed to cultivate independent research capabilities among students, enabling them to contribute to the growing body of historical knowledge. Under the guidance of experienced faculty members, students embarked on in-depth research projects, exploring various aspects of history and making valuable contributions to the field.

The Department of History is acutely aware of the diverse backgrounds from which its students come, with a significant number hailing from rural areas. With a steadfast commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education, the department strives to promote intellectual, moral, educational, and cultural values. It aims to create an environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive and succeed.

Through its teaching methodologies and extracurricular activities, the department instills a sense of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking among its students. Faculty members engage students in thought-provoking discussions, encouraging them to question, analyze, and interpret historical events and phenomena. This not only enriches their understanding of the past but also helps develop valuable skills that can be applied in various aspects of life.

Moreover, the department recognizes the importance of cultural heritage and its role in shaping identities. It actively promotes cultural values and traditions, organizing events and celebrations that showcase the diverse historical and cultural tapestry. By engaging with various cultural perspectives, students gain a broader understanding of the world and develop a deep appreciation for their own heritage.

In summary, the Department of History, established in 1975, has been a stronghold of historical education and research. With the introduction of M.A. and M.Phil. programs, it has provided students with opportunities for advanced study and research. The department’s dedication to promoting intellectual, moral, educational, and cultural values ensures an inclusive and enriching educational experience for all students, regardless of their background.
